Hitting Development Leader
(Former Professional Player
and Current High-A Coach)
Coach Bryan Muniz brings a dynamic blend of professional playing and coaching experience to SBA, offering hitters firsthand insight into what it takes to compete and succeed at the highest levels of the game.
A standout at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, Coach Muniz was selected by the Houston Astros in the 2014 MLB Draft and went on to play four seasons within the Astros organization. His understanding of the game—both at the plate and in the clubhouse—makes him an invaluable mentor for young athletes focused on their next level.
After retiring from professional play, Coach Muniz began his coaching career in the Florida Complex League (Rookie Level) and has since advanced to his current position as a hitting coach for the Astros' High-A affiliate in Asheville.
What is High-A?
High-A is a competitive level in Minor League Baseball, just two steps below the Major Leagues. Players at this level are among the top professional prospects in the country, working to refine their skills and earn promotion to Double-A, Triple-A, and ultimately the big leagues. Coaching at this level requires a deep understanding of advanced mechanics, data-driven instruction, and high-performance player development.
As Coach Muniz explains,
“We want them to be big leaguers, we want them to win games at Minute Maid. So, doing everything possible here to continue to move them up is our main goal. All we can control is development, pitch selection, swing decisions, contact—stuff that is not measured on the box score. So continuing to press development is really our main goal here.”
In addition to his role with the Astros, Coach Muniz is a hands-on instructor at The SBA Clubhouse, where he works directly with hitters to refine their approach, improve swing decisions, and prepare for college and professional opportunities.
Coach Bryan also plays a key leadership role in overseeing the hitting philosophy and training systems for the SBA Elite Program at the Volusia Sports Center. While not based locally at VSC, he works closely with the in-house coaching team to align instruction, evaluate hitters, and ensure a unified development path across both programs.
Coach Muniz continues to be a respected leader in the Astros organization while bringing the same level of excellence, accountability, and development-focused insight to the athletes training within the SBA system.
